Some careers follow a carefully planned path, while others begin with a leap of faith—mine was the latter, and it has shaped me into the leader and nurse I am today.
Raised on a dairy farm in Kansas, I spent years working as a restaurant cook, living paycheck to paycheck. At 38 years old, I took a bold step toward reinvention—choosing to pursue my passion for nursing. In 2009, I earned my Associate Degree in Nursing from Oglala Lakota College of Nursing, followed by my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minot State University in 2010—officially launching a career that blends expertise, compassion, and leadership in ways I never imagined.
For over 15 years, I have called Grants, New Mexico—the Uranium Capital of the World—my home, building a reputation for excellence in healthcare. As Clinical Nurse Manager at Dialysis Clinic Inc., I led a team of thirteen staff members, overseeing care for forty-eight patients with end-stage renal disease. Through strategic leadership and a deep commitment to patient care, I guided the clinic to national recognition, outperforming more than 230 dialysis centers across the country and earning the 2017 Darwin Peterson Award for operational excellence and quality management.
Beyond dialysis care, I have embraced diverse healthcare disciplines, becoming a certified resuscitation coach and teaching CPR. As a contract nurse for the U.S. Department of Labor, I have cared for Cold War Patriots, ensuring dignified, high-quality care for those who served. My time in home health nursing enabled me to develop personalized care plans, forging meaningful relationships with patients and their families to enhance quality of life in the comfort of their homes.
More recently, I devoted myself to hospice care, guiding individuals through their final journey. However, the emotional challenge of balancing curative versus comfort care led me to an important transition in my career. The question of doing no harm is never simple in hospice care, and I knew it was time to follow a new path in nursing—one that empowers rather than simply treats.
Then, a chance meeting changed everything. A young woman spoke passionately about Integrative Nurse Coaching, a field I had only seen in passing online. Intrigued, I dived into research, and soon enough, I enrolled in the program, graduating as a Certified Nurse Coach. This journey has redefined my approach to nursing—shifting from a curative model to holistic, wellness-focused care that nurtures mind, body, and spirit.
Now, I am channeling my nursing expertise into my own business, dedicated to health, wellness, and resuscitation training in my small but vibrant community. As a Nurse Coach, I am eager to connect, collaborate, and lead in a movement that expands nursing beyond conventional boundaries, empowers individuals, and champions education in holistic healthcare. With my compact nurse license, I can reach and support individuals across the nation.
Exciting possibilities lie ahead, and I look forward to shaping the future of nursing with passion, dedication, and a vision for transformative care.
